Simple “How to Paint” instructions (customer-friendly)
Step 1: Prep the surface
-
Wash parts with warm water + dish soap, then let fully dry.
Step 2: Prime (highly recommended)
-
Use a spray primer or brush-on primer.
-
Apply light coats, let dry, then repeat.
Step 3: Paint
-
Use thin coats. Two to four thin coats beats one thick coat every time.
-
Let each coat dry before adding the next.
Step 4: Seal and protect
-
Finish with a clear coat to protect your paint.
-
Let it cure overnight for best durability.
Step 5: Assemble
-
Dry-fit parts first.
-
If needed, use a small amount of super glue for final assembly.
Best paint to use on unfinished PLA
Best overall: Water-based acrylic paint
It sticks well (especially over primer), it’s easy, and it cleans up with water.
Good brands:
-
Apple Barrel / FolkArt (budget + solid)
-
Vallejo (smooth, great coverage)
-
Citadel (amazing but pricier)
